The Founding of Oregon Forensics
By Oregon Forensics Forever | October 27, 1876
Just ten days after the University of Oregon opened its doors, students established the Laurean and Eutaxian Societies on October 27, 1876. At a university of fewer than 200 students, these debating groups quickly became the social and intellectual heartbeat of campus life.
From the very beginning, forensics at Oregon was not merely an extracurricular pursuit but a stage where future leaders tested their ideas, sharpened their voices, and practiced the art of oral advocacy. This commitment to debate and public argument laid the foundation for a tradition that continues to define Oregon Forensics today.
